Ho West District Chief Executive Distributes Nose Masks At Kissifli Market

The Ho West District Chief Executive on, 11th May, 2020 distributed 600 locally produced nose masks at the Kissifli market to help prevent further spread of the corona virus. The distribution exercise was in line with the compulsory nose masks wearing directives by the President.

The Hon. District Chief Executive, Hon Victor Ernest Apau advised the market women and traders to adhere to the social distancing protocol, performing frequent hand hygiene with soap under running water or use of alcohol based hand sanitizer and mandatory wearing of nose mask to public places in order to protect themselves from contracting Covid 19. He added that any trader who would refuse to wear the nose mask will be prevented from selling in the market.

The DCE too the opportunity to demonstrate to the traders and other people how to wear the nose masks, after which he led the team to distribute the nose masks. Hon Issac Glavi, the Assembly Member for the electoral area indicated that they have intensified education on the Covid 19 in the various communities. However, residents are finding it difficult to adhere to the social distancing and wearing of the nose mask. He applauded the Assembly for the gesture but stated that the market needs more Veronica buckets at vantage areas of the markets.

The team also realized that some of the markets women have the nose mask but have refuse to wear it. When some of them were questioned why they were not wearing the nose mask, the traders admitted that they feel uncomfortable when wearing it under the hot sun. There were however, advised to continue wearing the mask to protect their lives because “prevention is better than cure”.

The DCE will continue the distribution exercise in the six other markets, various shops and vantage spots in the district.
